AI Characters waiting to engage with you on REPLIKANT Chat.

    REPLIKANT

REPLIKANT (sic) has just launched a new AI-powered 3D animation platform, REPLIKANT Chat. The new animation tool integrates AI-controlled characters and camera animations. REPLIKANT Chat dynamically influences character animations based on emotions and contextual understanding, which can also be controlled by the animator.

If you’re not in the video game industry, you’ve probably never heard of the popular REPLIKANT app. It adds new tools for lip sync and character animation to outdated 3D animation workflows. With an 80% five-star rating on Steam and 433,000 followers on YouTube, REPLIKANT has established itself as a leading animation tools provider for applications as diverse as education, language learning, customer service, and entertainment.

REPLIKANT Chat features low-latency real-time image generation, so it seems like the AI characters are “performing” in real time. They enrich the conversations with each other with eye contact and body language. The AI has access to external knowledge sources from across the web. REPLIKANT Chat also includes animated AI chatbot sidekicks, simulated phone calls, interview scenarios, and real-time sound and visual effects control.

    REPLIKANT Chairman Andy Wood.

REPLIKANT Chairman Andy Wood’s career in animation includes facial performance capture used in Grand Theft Auto and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Call of Duty and Spider-Man to leading Cubic Motion’s eventual acquisition by Epic Games as part of the MetaHuman program. Wood has historically focused on improving efficiency, the necessary level of investment, profitability and lowering costs in animation production for all. “AI enables the characters to animate themselves,” said Wood. “It’s been the holy grail of my career. No one has ever done that before.”

“We love animation, but financially it was out of reach” said Kevin Leadingham, the Head of Content and Production at Green Our Planet Studios, which makes story-driven K through 12 educational materials. “When our designer found REPLIKANT, it changed everything for us. We were finally able to make the kind of high-quality animation we dreamed about.” Green Our Planet Studios is a REPLIKANT power user that transitioned to using REPLIKANT Chat when the open beta launched in November. “They have an animation platform that’s unlike anybody else out there. There’s literally no one else doing what they’re doing. We fell in love with it and started creating our videos around it.”

REPLIKANT CTO and co-founder Luc Schurgers.

    REPLIKANT

“REPLIKANT Editor allows creators to make changes instantly, whether it’s tweaking scripts or reanimating scenes in ways that have never been seen before,” says REPLIKANT CTO and co-founder Luc Schurgers. “This technology democratizes access to professional-grade animation tools.” Built within Unreal Engine 5, REPLIKANT Editor enables real-time character creation. REPLIKANT Chat takes that to the next level, adding AI for lip sync, characters and cameras. It launched on Steam Early Access in November, 2024. This new app enables users to engage in live conversations with AI companions within immersive 3D environments, with a range of sets, or settings, like a live stand-up comedy venue, a newsroom, and a children’s classroom. Natural chats can take place in twelve languages.

Schurgers’ experience complements Wood’s vision with a strong technical foundation. Having spent years refining workflows in animation and AI. Schurgers sees REPLIKANT as a tool that lowers barriers; “You can create characters, generate scripts, and build scenes without needing specialized training,” he explained. Schurgers also pointed to collaborations with NVIDIA, Google, and the company’s engaged Discord community as vital to shaping the platform’s usability.

The REPLIKKANT editor and REPLIKANT Chat are destinef to meet.

    REPLIKANT

REPLIKANT Chat has a freemium model, with the lowest paid subscription $12 and the most expensive $100 on platforms like NVIDIA GeForceNow and Steam. REPLIKANT Chat AI powered avatars are customizable, animated AI characters capable of real-time, natural conversations, complete with body movements and eye contact. Characters can be tailored for personal, educational, or business use, with built-in multilingual support to expand accessibility. Cross-platform availability enhances its reach, and the platform’s ability to remember user interactions creates a more engaging and dynamic experience.

Expanding access to REPLIKANT’s tools beyond professional animators to the broader public will require thoughtful scaling and product refinements. Schurgers acknowledged that education and outreach are critical: “Making this technology ubiquitous is the next hurdle. We’re focused on making it as intuitive as possible.”

REPLIKANT’s ambition is to place professional-grade animation tools in the hands of everyday creators. By combining procedural animation with AI-powered customization, REPLIKANT has the potential to transform digital storytelling.“REPLIKANT is not just building software; it is creating a platform for limitless creative expression.” Wood added, “This is about enabling creativity at a scale never seen before. It’s about giving everyone the chance to tell their story, regardless of resources.”
