( June 12, 2025, 05:19 GMT | Official Statement) — MLex Summary: Open AI, DeepSeek, Microsoft, Apple and Nike, among others, will face privacy-policy assessments by South Korea’s Personal Information Protection Commission to evaluate clarity, readability and accessibility for South Korean users. The PIPC selected 50 services in sectors such as generative artificial intelligence, connected cars, edutech, smart-home devices and health apps for this year’s review. A panel of experts and citizen users will examine not only the user-friendliness of the privacy policies but also whether key elements such as the purpose of data processing, types of data collected and retention periods accurately reflect actual data practices. Companies with high sores will be eligible for regulatory incentives, such as reduced administrative fines. Those advised to improve their policies will be subject to reevaluation next year.
