Facebook parent company Meta is reportedly in discussions with tech rivals Google and ChatGPt-maker OpenAI to integrate their advanced AI models into its own applications. According to a report from The Information (via news agency Reuters), this strategic move suggests that the company’s newly formed Superintelligence Lab is looking to quickly enhance its AI offerings while it develops its own next-generation models.Sources familiar with the conversations told The Information that leaders at Meta Superintelligence Labs have explored using Google’s Gemini model to power conversational, text-based responses for Meta AI, the company’s primary chatbot. Discussions have also reportedly included leveraging OpenAI’s models for Meta AI and other AI features within the company’s social media apps.

A Meta spokesperson, addressing the reports, confirmed the company’s multi-pronged approach to AI development. “We are taking an all-of-the-above approach to building the best AI products; and that includes building world-leading models ourselves, partnering with companies, as well as open sourcing technology,” the spokesperson was quoted as saying.The report suggests that any such deals would be a temporary measure to improve Meta’s AI products until its own models, particularly the upcoming Llama 5, can compete with rivals.This news comes months after Meta committed billions of dollars to its Superintelligence Lab, aggressively hiring top AI researchers from competitors like Google DeepMind and OpenAI with generous compensation packages.The development comes a few days after OpenAI announced a partnership with Google Cloud to meet its computing demand. Google CEO Sundar Pichai said that he is “very excited” to supply OpenAI with cloud computing resources.“With respect to OpenAI, look, we are very excited to be partnering with them on Google Cloud,” said Pichai on Google’s second-quarter earnings call. “Google Cloud is an open platform, and we have a strong history of supporting great companies, startups, AI labs, etc. So super excited about our partnership there on the cloud side, and we look forward to investing more in that relationship and growing that,” he added.
